WATCH: Greta Thunberg Leads Millions Of Young School Children Around The Globe In A “Climate Strike”
Millions of young people around the world have taken to the streets for a “climate strike.” These young people are going on “strike” from school to “demand action” on climate change.
The “school strike for climate” was started by 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
Thunberg tweeted that there are over 4,648 events planned for the strike from September 20-27.
New York City has allowed 1.1 million public school students to skip school to participate. Many parents believe New York City officials are forcing their politics onto school children.
Climate strikes are planned for many other major cities worldwide, including Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Moscow, and Hong Kong.
Thousands of employees of big tech companies are also expected to walk out in protest. Employees from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google will have organized walkouts.
Ben & Jerry’s has announced that it will be closing for the climate strike. Ben & Jerry’s released the following statement: “We recognize that climate change is an existential threat to our planet and all its inhabitants, and therefore we are proud standing with the youth-led movement demanding bold action in response to the climate emergency.”
Many have labeled climate change activists as “alarmists” or “fear-mongers.” Many who disagree with climate change activists point out that none of the climate doomsday scenarios that have been pushed over the last 50 years, like fears of an “ice age” in the 1970s, came true.
