Italian-Americans come together to voice their outrage over the removal of the Columbus statue in Chicago.

A man voiced his concern calling out Mayor Lori Lightfood stating, “This is an outrage. She has erased history and this is a slap in the face to Italian Americans. I believe in 1967, the statue was erected with the help of one of the state reps, Victor Arrigo. He was a state rep. And if you think about how many Italian Americans settled here, settled here and helped to this country.”

He continued, “Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s excuses because she didn’t want police officers to have another confrontation with protesters like the one that transpired last week in Grant Park. That is the biggest lie. And I’ll tell you why. If you give an example, last night there was a lot of people that opposed this statue coming down and there could have been another confrontation. She-. It’s a double standard and she’s not abiding by it. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said when she got in office, she was going to be inclusive.”

Franco Conati also called out the Mayor, “The mayor of the City of Chicago, could’ve sat down. We could have come to some kind of agreement. We could have talked about it, but you went in the middle of the night at 3:00 a.m., I think it was, and took him down. So what the mayor told the city is the terrorists won. The terrorists that have been destroying our city, throwing rocks and bombs in our Chicago police.
