(WATCH) JUST IN: Justin Trudeau Announces End Of Emergencies Act, Social Media Erupts In Celebration (VIDEO)

The controversial Emergencies Act implemented by Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to be revoked.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, barely nine days after the Emergencies Act was used to break severe blockades and occupations in downtown Ottawa and at land border crossings throughout Canada on Feb. 14.

Trudeau made it seem that the cabinet’s decision to establish the act is what led to the end of the protests and street blockades.

During the news conference, Trudeau said, “We are confident that existing laws and bylaws are now sufficient to keep people safe,” adding that the government will continue to help local police and authorities.

Critics and opposition leaders slammed the measures, notably those aimed at tracking down money and bank accounts linked to people who allegedly planned or participated in the weeks-long protests.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a statement that the province will follow suit and withdraw its state of emergency at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Social media users erupted in celebration. Viva Frei said Trudeau made a fool of himself.

One Twitter user called Trudeau’s leadership a global ridicule.

Journalist Ezra Levant mocked the liberals supportive of Trudeau, saying, “Imagine being a Liberal MP, and NDP MP, a Senator, a Trudeau journalist, who supported the Emergencies Act, who pledged your loyalty to Trudeau above loyalty to the Constitution. Imagine having burnt up your own reputation to support his — only to have him say, ‘just kidding!'”

Radio host Alex Pierson said, “What a mockery this gov has made of this country’s rule of law. There’s literally no area of our laws that @JustinTrudeau won’t toy with to benefit his own politics. He himself undermines the democracy he claims we need to protect. It’s revolting.”
