Many in the LGBTQ community are criticizing NFL superstar quarterback Drew Brees after he encouraged kids to bring their Bibles to school in a video for a Christian group.
Brees filmed a short, wholesome video with the Christian organization ‘Focus on the Family’ in which he talked about his Christian faith and told kids to bring their Bibles to school on ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day.’
The reason many LGBTQ groups are upset is that they believe ‘Focus on the Family’ is an anti-LGBTQ organization because it holds mainstream Christian views surrounding traditional marriage and the belief that there are only two genders. ‘Focus on the Family’ has also has endorsed the practice of conversion therapy.
In response to the controversy, Brees posted a video to address the situation, in which he denied any wrongdoing and denied his support for any hate groups.
‘Focus on the Family’ president Jim Daly thanked Brees for his ‘on-going support for the initiative.’
Many members of the LGBTQ community are angry that Brees has refused to totally disavow the ‘Focus on the Family’ organization. However, many Christians are standing tall behind Brees and the organization and believe that Christian groups are being unfairly targeted and bullied by LGBTQ groups.
