(WATCH) Officer Kim Potter Left Speechless, Trembling As Guilty Verdict Is Read In Daunte Wright Trial (VIDEO)

A jury convicted former Minneapolis-area police officer Kim Potter guilty of first and second degree manslaughter charges in the April 2021 killing of Daunte Wright.

Potter, 49, could receive a maximum sentence of 15 years for the first-degree manslaughter charge as well as 10 years for the second-degree charge.

Judge Regina Chu ordered Potter be brought into jail without bail. Chu rejected the defense team’sr equest that Potter be kept out of jail on $100,000 bond. The defesne argued since Potter is a devout Catholic and it’s Christmas season, she ought to be allowed to remain free until sentencing.

The six mena and six women on the jury took over 27 hours deliberating before reaching a verdict.

Staff throughout the Hennepin County Government Center were instructed to leave the building before the decision was read aloud. The entire Minneapolis courthouse was cleared out for security reasons, as well.

Potter was seen trembling fearfully as her verdict was read.

As Potter was taken into custody, her husband yelled out, “I love you Kim!” Potter replied “I love you” back.

Potter had 26 years of law enforcement experience when she claimed to mistake her hadngun for her taser on April 11, when she shot Daunte Wright. Potter and other officers were attempting to arrest Wright before he rushed back into his vehicle.

Wright had a warrant out for his arrest. The 20-year-old Wright can be seen climbing into his driver’s seat of a vehicle as police tried to apprehend him.

Potter’s bodycam footage shows her yelling, “I’ll tase you! Taser! Taser! Taser!” before firing her handgun.

She then can be heard saying, “I grabbed the wrong f—— gun. Holy s—, I just shot him.”
