(WATCH) Star Soccer Player Drop Kicks, Slaps Cat In Raging Tantrum (VIDEO)

Shocking footage has emerged which shows West Ham United soccer player Kurt Zouma drop kicking and slapping his pet cat. Zouma has issued an apology and the Premier League condemned the video, according to Reuters.

During a video that was initially released by the Sun newspaper on Monday, Zouma is seen throwing shoes at a cat in what appears to be a private house, smacking it across the face, chasing it around the room, and kicking it across the floor. The sound of laughter may be heard in the background of the video.

The Premier League team issued a statement saying, “West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.”

“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”

The soccer player issued an apology in which he said, “I want to apologize for my actions. There are no excuses for my behavior, which I sincerely regret. I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video.”

He added, “I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy. They are loved and cherished by our entire family. This behavior was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

It seems Zouma is now being investigated by the police. Essex Police spokesperson told Reuters, “We have recently been made aware that this incident may have taken place in Essex and we are liaising with the RSPCA and urgent enquiries are ongoing.”
