(WATCH) Students Escape Through Window As Michigan School Shooter Tried To Identify Himself As A Sheriff’s Deputy (VIDEO)

As a shooter opened fire inside Oxford High School on Tuesday, uncertainty grew within students and they grew unsure if the person knocking on the door was a gunman or an Oakland County Sheriff Deputy.

A father called FOX 2 to describe what his son, a student at Oxford High School, went through Tuesday during a mass shooting that left three teenagers dead and eight others injured.

The father explained that his son claimed that the shooter might have been knocking on classroom doors impersonating a sheriff’s deputy, trying to get the students to let him in.

In the video below, you can see the confusion in the classroom as the students are confused, wondering if they are in danger or not. Someone screams from the other side of the door, “Sheriff’s office, it’s safe to come out.”

In the words of one kid speaking on behalf of the entire class, “we’re not willing to take that risk right now.”

“Come to the door and look at my badge, bro”, said the voice on the other end of the line.

After hearing the word “bro,” the suspicious students decided to keep the door closed and instead flee via a window of their classroom building.

“He said, bro. Red flag,” one student said.

After that, the students climbed out of a window and sprinted across an adjacent outside courtyard.

Once passing the courtyard, an office opened a door for them and said, “you’re fine.”

The three victims that were murdered were 14 and 17-year-old girls, as well as a 16-year-old boy, according to police. There were eight victims wounded with one of them being a teacher.

Savannah, a 17-year-old student said she received a text from her boyfriend in the middle of class that warned her something was wrong.

“We locked the doors, there’s this closet in the classroom, so it was very safe in the classroom, in the back corner,” she said, adding she heard the gunshots. “I feel like (we got out) about 30 minutes later, the police knocked on the door so we were able to get out.”

Savannah said that the school had conducted active shooter exercises in the past for both students and faculty.

She said, “yes it did (help), everyone was serious (and knew what to do).”

According to Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe, the suspect in the shooting, a 15-year-old sophomore, was brought into custody without incident at 12:56 p.m. on Wednesday. According to him, the suspect is from Oxford Township.

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said he was arrested within five minutes of the first 911 call, which came in at 12:51 p.m., by a school deputy who was assigned to the school as well as a deputy who responded to the situation.

The firearm that was used in the attack was seized, and the suspect did not appear to be wearing any body armor.

“He has already invoked his right to not speak. He wants an attorney, he is not telling us anything at this point in time,” McCabe said. “We believe he acted alone and don’t believe he planned this with anybody else.”

The suspect did not provide a rationale for his actions, McCabe said when asked whether he had provided any information about his motivations.
