Woman Self Quarantines In Plane Lavatory For Four Hours Due To Positive Covid Test

Marisa Fotieo, a schoolteacher from Chicago, Illinois decided to self-isolate herself in an airplane bathroom for four hours out of concern for the wellbeing of her fellow passengers.

Fotieo developed a sore throat while flying from the U.S. to Europe. She alleged her sore throat began while the plane was above the Atlantic Ocean. Fotieo took the COVID pandemic quite seriously and had packed multiple rapid testing kits with her on the flight.

After taking a rapid test and testing positive for COVID-19, Fotieo immediately informed a flight attendant of her sickness. The flight attendant told Fotieo that she could not properly isolate herself from other passengers since there were not enough empty seats.

Fotieo, in an interview with “13 On Your Side”, said she asked if she could “just stay in the bathroom for the rest of the flight…I can’t believe I spent four hours in that bathroom, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

In a Tiktok Video, Fotieo described her 4-hour bathroom experience as isolating in “VIP quarantine quarters”. She is seen wearing at least three facemasks even though she is in the enclosed, isolated lavatory.

Once the plane landed in Iceland, Fotieo began her ten-day quarantine in the Red Cross Humanitarian Hotel. While Fotieo’s trip may have been ruined by COVID, her father and brother tested negative and were able to travel freely.
