YouTuber Ethan Klein Slams Catholic Priest In Tweet: “Catholic Church Is Responsible For Systemic Sexual Abuse” Of Children
YouTuber Ethan Klein of h3h3Productions criticized the Catholic Church in a tweet on Sunday in response to a viral tweet posted by a Rhode Island bishop named Thomas Tobin.
Tobin tweeted, “A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.”
Tobin’s tweet received major backlash, with over 89,000 comments that mostly condemned the Bishop’s denouncement of LGBTQ Pride Month.
Ethan Klein, a YouTuber who has over 6.4 million subscribers on his channel ‘h3h3Productions,’ responded to Bishop Tobin’s tweet and pointed out that the Catholic Church has a well-known history of sexually abusing of children.
“A reminder that the Catholic church is responsible for the systemic sexual abuse of thousands of children and if there is one place I wouldn’t want my children to be is alone with a Catholic priest.”
Bishop Tobin responded to the backlash he faced on Twitter in an official written statement published by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence Office of Communications:
“I regret that my comments yesterday about Pride Month have turned out to be so controversial in our community, and offensive to some, especially in the gay community,” Tobin said. “That certainly was not my intention but I understand why a good number of individuals have taken offense.”
Pro-LGBT activists held a protest rally in Cathedral Square in Providence, Rhode Island in response to Bishop Tobin’s comments and are calling for Tobin to resign.
