In his J6 anniversary speech President Biden ripped into Trump, saying, “One year ago today, in this sacred place, democracy was attacked. For the first time in our history, a president had not just lost an election; he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob breached the Capitol … the former president of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election.”

President Donald Trump was barred from using social media sites Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube in January of this year after being declared a threat to public safety and being determined to be at danger of instigating future violence after the Capitol protest. Prior to being banned, Trump’s posts on Facebook and Twitter were flagged and removed by the social media platforms for allegedly disseminating disinformation about the election and COVID-19.

Truth Social was unveiled by Trump in October, with the president claiming it will “stand up to the tyranny of big tech.”

The president noted at the time, “We live in a world where the Taliban has a presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American president has been silenced.”
