New York City is openly celebrating a record-breaking decline in shootings and murders, claiming the lowest figures ever tracked over the last five months.
According to FOX News, from January 1 to May 31 of this year, the number of shootings reported was 264, with 112 recorded homicides. The previous lowest counts stood at 267 shootings in 2018, and 113 homicides in both 2014 and 2017.
May also saw minimums not seen before, tallying just 54 shootings and 18 homicides. Prior to this, the lowest levels were in 2019, when the city logged 61 shootings and 19 homicides, as per the report.
This development marks a significant change compared to recent history in New York City.

In a public statement, Democrat Mayor Eric Adams emphasized to both residents and tourists that these improvements are only the beginning:
When I took the oath of office as mayor, I made a promise that we would make this city safer and that we would drive down crime.
Today, the numbers prove that we have not just kept that promise — we have exceeded it. I am exceptionally proud to share that from January 2025 to May 2025, New York City saw the lowest number of shootings and homicides in recorded history.
He further noted, “These historic achievements are the direct result of our administration’s commitment to precision policing, strategic deployment of resources, and the tireless dedication of the brave men and women of the NYPD.”
FOX News also highlighted remarks from New York City Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who, during an Executive Budget Hearing, specified that thousands of illegal firearms were seized from city streets since the start of the year.
Tisch stated, “Results like this never happen by accident, and certainly not at a time when the state’s criminal justice laws have made a revolving door out of our criminal justice system.”
