This chilling moment reveals the catastrophic failure of AI security systems that liberals keep pushing as infallible. How can parents, teachers, and students feel safe when a snack is perceived as a deadly threat? This blunder wasn’t just a simple mistake—it was a trauma inflicted on innocent children who deserve protection, not unnecessary fear and police intimidation.
The so-called “smart” AI system failed to differentiate harmless food from a weapon. This isn’t the first time Omnilert has faltered; earlier this year in January, the same AI system failed to detect a concealed gun before a deadly shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee. Are taxpayers supposed to put blind faith in technology that can’t even do its basic job?
Baltimore County councilmembers Julian Jones and Izzy Patoka, both Democrats, wasted no time demanding a full review of the Omnilert system. Their question is simple: how does a bag of chips trip alarms that lead to a police standoff? Yet, Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers defended the AI system, claiming it “did what it was supposed to do” by alerting staff who then verified the threat.
This response is a slap in the face to concerned citizens. Superintendent Rogers dismissed calls for a comprehensive evaluation of Omnilert, insisting that “regular reviews” are already done. But how often are these so-called reviews subjected to rigorous independent scrutiny? And why have they failed to prevent incidents that traumatize students?
Meanwhile, Omnilert itself issued a statement labeling the incident as a “false positive,” emphasizing that their AI worked as designed and that human oversight is still critical. While it’s good they admit human eyes must intervene, the simple fact remains that many are being scared senseless due to flawed AI technology that costs schools millions.
The backlash is palpable on social media, where parents and students call for transparency and accountability. The community’s outrage is well-placed. Children must never be treated like suspects over a misunderstanding caused by unreliable AI.
Kenwood High’s principal Kate Smith acknowledged the false alarm in a letter to families, reassuring that counselors would support affected students and safety remains the priority. But this incident points to a deeper problem: reliance on overhyped technology rather than sensible security rooted in common sense and respect for constitutional rights.

The Trump administration’s commitment to law and order means school safety must never come at the price of innocent lives being terrorized.
