The Science Is Clear: Reopen America Now Or Face The Worst Economic Depression In History

Most of the United States has been in a government-mandated lockdown for more than a month.  Although a few states never completely locked down, and a few others are beginning to slowly reopen, the bulk of the American public seems committed to staying in isolation for an indefinite amount of time.

Because government officials of every level ordered the economy to be effectively turned off, the United States went from being the strongest economy in the history of the world to suffering through the worst economic collapse in American history in less than two months.

In this time of severe uncertainty, one thing remains perfectly clear: If the economy does not start to reopen in the immediate future, we are going to be plunged into a depression that is so severe, the country may never fully recover.

Over 26 million Americans are now out of work, as 4.4 million more people filed for unemployment last week as government-mandated coronavirus shutdowns of business have caused more economic suffering than was ever imaginable.  And the few Americans who have been able to remain working, such as a 71-year-old small business owner in Arizona, are being arrested for violating stay-at-home orders.

Take a moment to process
what I just said.  Tens of millions of
Americans have lost their jobs in less than two months, and police are
arresting “non-essential” workers who are simply trying to make enough money to
feed their children and pay their bills.

Therefore, it seems
prudent to ask this one question: Are these draconian lockdown measures saving
enough lives to justify all the financial suffering they have caused?

According to recent
scientific data, the answer is no.

Multiple antibody studies that have been recently published confirmed what many have suspected all along: the death rate of COVID-19 is incredibly low.  According to a Stanford University study, the number of people infected by COVID-19 may be between 50 to 80 times higher than the official count.

One new study estimated that 21% of New York City residents have contracted COVID-19, said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.  New York City, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, has a population of 8.4 million, meaning approximately 1.8 million NYC residents have contracted the virus.

As of the time of this writing on Friday evening, 11,544 New York City residents have tragically died from coronavirus.  That number would put the estimated COVID-19 death rate at less than 0.1 percent.

A 0.1 percent is 34 times less deadly than the now-discredited 3.4% death rate that was previously promoted by alarmists and fearmongers.

While the numbers vary widely by region, the studies show that approximately 10 to 15% of Americans have already contracted and recovered from coronavirus, with a majority showing few or no symptoms.

A big problem with stay-at-home orders is that they are potentially slowing the development of herd immunity, a form of protection from a disease that develops when a large percentage of a population has become immune to an infectious disease that it stops the disease from spreading.

If enough Americans contract the coronavirus and recover, the population will develop herd immunity due to the percentage of the population that contains antibodies.  At a 30 percent infection rate, low levels of herd immunity would be developed.  At 60 percent, scientists believe we would be very close to total herd immunity.

However, given it is actually against the law to be around other human beings in many cases, it is essentially impossible for the American population to develop herd immunity at this time. This is especially ironic given that armchair scientists across social media have been parroting the line “the longer you stay home, the sooner this will all end.” The concept of herd immunity is exactly the opposite: people need to be exposed to the virus in order to develop the necessary antibodies to eradicate the disease from society.

There are many other
ways the shutdowns are hurting the country, but few are more deadly than the
government-ordered bans of so-called “elective” medical procedures. State and
local governments have ordered doctors and hospitals to not treat any elective
medical procedures in order to keep hospital beds open for potential COVID-19
patients.  The problem with this is a
wide range of necessary life-improving surgeries are classified as “elective”
as long as the surgery can be delayed by at least 24 hours without risk of
death.  Examples of elective surgeries are
heart valve replacements, amputation of limbs, tonsillectomies, ear tube
surgeries, and many more.

According to now-debunked scientific models, stay-at-home orders were supposedly necessary to slow the spread of coronavirus and to prevent hospitals from getting overrun. America has never come close to the insane death numbers predicted by the models that guided U.S. government policy, and hospitals have been forced to lay off doctors and nurses due to huge revenue losses caused by the bans on elective surgeries.

Additionally, according to a report in the National Post, a Canadian newspaper, doctors are warning that the coronavirus hysteria has likely caused countless people to die at home because they are too afraid to go to an emergency room for serious health issues like heart attacks, cancer, or diabetes, that are unrelated to the pandemic.

The mainstream media has been screaming at us to “listen to the scientists” for weeks. This, of course, seems to only apply to the scientists who agree with the media’s support for a never-ending lockdown. But since we need to listen to the scientists, then why don’t we listen to the multiple scientific studies mentioned above that revealed the lockdowns have had no significant result in terms of stopping the spread of the virus?

It’s time to end the coronavirus lockdowns before the number of deaths caused by starvation, fear of going to the hospital, joblessness, and homelessness surpass the number caused by the virus itself.
