Tlaib Calls For ‘No More Policing;’ Pressley Says You Can’t Be “Anti-Racist” Unless You Support Cancelling Student Loans

The Squad member Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Michigan) and Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts) recently made controversial remarks about the country’s police force and student debt cancellation.

Tlaib on Monday called for arguably the most extreme far-left proposal regarding the police saying there should be “no more policing” and “incarceration” because the system “can’t be reformed.”

Her comments came after Daunte Wright was shot by police in Minnesota after he reportedly attempted to run from law enforcement who pulled him over for expired license plate tags. The 20-year-old Wright was said to have a warrant out for his arrest for running from police and for a weapons charge.

Law enforcement later on said the police officer who shot Wright thought he was using her taser.

After earlier calling to defund the police last year, Tlaib’s push was more extreme this time.

“It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist,” Tlaib said. “Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.”

Her comment was immediately slammed by critics on social media — warning that the “no more policing” slogan could backfire against Democrats in the midterm elections.

“No more policing? Ok. All politicians who want to defund & eliminate the police should lead by example & start with their own security detail, personal neighborhoods, & gov’t offices. Give up your protection,” Bob Woodson, founder of the Woodson Center, tweeted.

Pradheep Shanker, conservative commentator remarked: “This police officer was criminally negligent, etc. But no group would be harmed more by the idiotic ranting policies of @RashidaTlaib than minorities.”

“Insane. ‘No more policing.’ It doesn’t get more explicit than this that Democrats want to abolish the police,” tweeted Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

“Democrats are so radical that not only do they want to destroy the 2nd Amendment to disarm us so we can’t defend ourselves from criminals, they don’t even want police to exist to defend us from criminals!!!” Donald Trump Jr., commented on twitter.

“Broke: “Defund the police. Woke: “No more policing,” he added.

Pressley: You can’t be anti-racist if you don’t support loan debt cancellation

Meanwhile, T’laib’s fellow progressive also claimed that a person can’t be “anti-racist” unless supportive of the radical left’s push to cancel student loan debt  — as Democratic President Joe Biden faces mounting pressure to forgive trillions worth of student debt.

In a tweet on Monday, Pressley shared an article by The Washington Post detailing stories of Americans with student debts.

“You can’t be anti-racist if you’re anti student debt cancellation,” the far-left Democrat said.

Progressive lawmakers have made student loan debt cancellation a priority — as they push Biden to use his executive powers to strike away $1.7 trillion worth of student debt with a stroke of his pen.

Other progressive Democrats have rallied behind these efforts. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are also pushing for student loan cancellation.

Warren said the idea is a “matter of racial, economic and generational justice.” The top Democratic senator also noted that it “would be a great day” for Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to cancel student debt.

In February, self-proclaimed Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York) publicly slammed Biden after he rejected a push to cancel $50,000 in student loan debt through an executive order.

“The case against student loan forgiveness is looking shakier by the day,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “We’ve got the *Senate Majority Leader* on board to forgive $50k. Biden’s holding back, but many of the arguments against it just don’t hold water on close inspection. We can and should do it. Keep pushing!”AOC said then.

Rep. Ro Khanna of California also earlier signaled his support for the move, saying that Biden “can cancel up to $50,000 of student loan debt for the American people with the stroke of a pen.”

Aside from student debt, progressive Democrats also want Biden to cancel debt and mortgage payments.
