Trump Meets With Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Full Details
President Trump met with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in a private 30 minute closed door meeting.
Many have speculated that the meeting was about social media censorship. Several media outlets have reported that President Trump complained about losing Twitter followers, but who knows what to believe anymore in the era of fake news?
All that is truly known is that Dorsey and Trump met and talked.
Trump tweeted a very positive message shortly after the meeting with Dorsey finished:
Great meeting this afternoon at the @WhiteHouse with @Jack from @Twitter. Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform, and the world of social media in general. Look forward to keeping an open dialogue!

Dorsey responded to President Trump’s tweet:

President Trump’s respectful tweet seems to show a change in his tone towards Twitter, which is usually highly critical. This makes us believe that Trump’s meeting with Dorsey must have been productive and civil.
Earlier that day before the meeting, Trump posted the following tweet in which he criticized Twitter for being “discriminatory” towards him.
Over the past few months, Trump has tweeted several times that he is “looking into” social media censorship. In the following tweet, Trump used the the popular conservative hashtag #StopTheBias, which refers to the anti-conservative censorship that many people believe Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other social media giants are participating in.
Twitter users had very mixed reactions to the meeting. Many expressed their anger at Twitter for “banning conservatives.” On the other side of the political spectrum, far-left people suggested that Jack Dorsey is a ‘white supremacist’ for taking the meeting with President Trump.
Journalist Tim Pool, who has been leading the charge with fighting against Twitter to stop social media censorship, made a tweet in which he seemed very skeptical about the meeting.
Pool’s tweet suggested that he believes Dorsey’s meeting with Trump was just a ploy by Dorsey to convince Trump not to regulate the Tech Giants.
In March, Pool engaged in a heated debate with the Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorset and Twitter’s Legal, Policy and Trust and Safety Lead Vijaya Gadde on ‘the Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast.
As someone who has works in the social media space and has experienced censorship firsthand, I must admit that it’s somewhat of a good sign that Jack Dorsey and Twitter are at least willing to talk to their critics.
Conservatives on social media have done a good job of bringing the issue of online censorship to the forefront of their agenda, particularly with awareness campaigns like the hashtag #StopTheBias.
If Republicans were smart and wanted to do something epic for their base for once, they’d introduce legislation to ban the practice of censoring political speech by social media platforms. Political speech should not be subject to any shadow-banning or throttling by the social media giants.
Unfortunately, the Republican leadership is so out of touch with its base on this issue, it’s very likely that nothing will get done.
Therefore, if you care about protecting your free speech rights on social media, and I really hope you do, keep raising hell about the issue. Otherwise, the do-nothing politicians in Congress will continue to sit on their asses and do nothing.
